Pico projector phones are still relatively new to the scene, and the NCBC 888 is one of the newest out there. So does this phone have anything besides this one hook to offer?
If I were to look at a phone like the NCBC 888 which didn't come with a projector, I would think that it was a completely standard phone without too many bells and whistles. Seeing as it actually is integrated though, and also works quite well, this phone does have something of a hook that will draw some people in. Now if it just looked a little more sexy.
So here are the NCBC 888's basic specifications.
The projector built into the phone includes a manual focus lens, has 640x480 resolution, and is 2 LUX.
It is a unlocked GSM quad band phone.
Dual SIM ports with dual standby are built in.
It is constructed from Polycarbonate plastic in the front, with the back panel being faux leather.
Its screen size measures 2.4 inches, is TFT, and has a resolution of 240x320 pixels.
The total weight of the phone is 130gms.
Total phone measurements are Length-117 Width-49 Height-17 mm.
Internet is accessible by GPRS and WAP 2.0.
All functions are done wither using touchscreen or keypad control.
Battery life in standard at 40 to 60 hours on standby, but only about 3~5 hours if using the projector.
More games or programs are available by downloading and installing java apps to the java platform.
Media includes: A MP3 player/ MP4 player, a camera and digital camcorder, an eBook reader, a TV with analog reception, and a FM radio.
So here are my thoughts regarding how good the NCBC 888 is.
Pros
The pico projector actually works very well and projects what is displayed on the phone's screen in good definition.
Believe it or not, the NCBC 888 is actually the worlds first quad band projector phone, which means you can buy and use it anywhere world wide.
It is ludicrously cheap for a miniature projector.
It is highly unlikely that anyone else on your block is going to have a phone with a projector built in.
Cons
Three words: It's pretty ugly.
Navigating through the phone's menu is a pain when you have the projector mode on, as you have to hold the phone sideways to get a normal view.
It is a huge inconvenience to have to navigate to a sub menu to access the projector mode, as a one touch button would have made much more sense.
Interesting idea and pretty well done, if you can get over its cons (which there are a few of), the NCBC 888 is a pretty good option for a cheap pico projector phone.
